about

This project started in fall 2016. Helen of Joy had two different band members, and naturally, some very different influences. At the time, we were obsessed with southern Gothic and the reverbs from 60s pop idols like Frankie Avalon. Having invested over two years into this baby, and despite Helen of Joy’s arguably very different sonic expression these days, we were determined, and consequently, quite thrilled, to now have a full-length album to share with the world. As we dip into the electronic landscape of the horizon, our hope is that our fans feel a connection with the retro sounds of 'I ran for cover under the sea' as much as we do.

There are familiar sounds in their work, no doubt, but those are just friendly hands to cling onto as you enter the unknown. ... more
